South Africa. Cullinan, a stone's throw from Pretoria. It is in the bed of the river which separates two districts of the city (the bourgeoisie on one side, the workers on the other) that an old miner, at the dawn of retirement, finds a diamond of the size of a fist. This diamond has the potential to revive all mining activity in the region, but also to tip these two neighborhoods into total chaos. ?The River? describes the lives of the Dlaminis and Mokoenas, two families from different backgrounds who always lived peacefully together until the discovery of the diamond.
